We did not know what to expect in this way, so we had a really exciting and instructive day. Our guide Paul chose us in time with the bus driver. Upon arrival we met another guide wizard who took us all over the island. It was amazing and full of information and history. We visited the cave of St. Michael and I got great pictures there. Gibraltar is amazing and worth a visit!
Amazing guide, Petra - really knowledgeable, friendly, helpful.
-I'd recommend to take your own lunch, so you don't waste time buying it.
-Another couple and I, from our tour, went up the cable car - great view but this used up all of our spare time and I do think there were other areas I would have liked to explore.
-The time in Gibraltar is limited.
Dont book a tour if Andalsur Excursiones is going to be your touring company. They never answered the phone, never replied to my phone message or emails. Tour guide wasted a lot of time because she didnt know where we was supposed to meet the touring bus in Gibraltar. I told her she was walking too fast and older people couldnt keep up, they were struggling we walked 2.2 miles from bus to tour bus taking us up to the Rock of Gibraltar, I wear a Fitbit so I was able to track the distance. Our tour included hotel pick up and drop off but we had to take a taxi to Andalsur Excursiones office. They emailed me to be at their office at 7:55 am, I called and emailed them back to let them know pick up was included but no reply from them. When we tried explaining this to the tour guide she was just very rude, started yelling at us everyone on the bus is a witness to this and would not listen to what we were trying to explain to her. I had a paper copy of my tour with details about travel included but she said its not my proplem, contact whomever you booked with. Ive taken many tours I booked through Viator and never encountered anything like this. We did get the bus driver to drop us off at our hotel upon our return. Big disappointment, big waste of our time and money!
Great day out. Our guide Petra was fantastic. I only wish we had more time on Gibraltar. We only had about 1.5 hours to explore Gibraltar on our own, and the description made it sound like we would have the day. We got back to Seville around 6:00 PM, and I could have done with getting back later 8-10 PMish.
This was a very good one-day round trip. Our Seville guide, Abby, did a super job - letting us know the plans for the day, helping keep the group on track and informed throughout the day. There were a few minor logistical kinks, to be expected with a group traveling, stopping, crossing borders, and regrouping as the day progresses. Abby put extra effort into smoothing out those kinks, so that we were able to enjoy Gibraltar to the fullest without hassles. Great.
Not was I was expecting at all, and left very disappointed. The excursion itself was not very descriptive of what we would be doing once we arrived, and I should have asked for more details before booking. When I did enquire about what the entrance feeS notice the plural covered, the customer rep. knew about St. Michaels cave, but wasn't sure about the rest. That was my first mistake, which I will own.
We drove for 3 hours to Gibraltar, walked across the runway and through customs, then got into another van and were driven around on a guided tour through Gibraltar hopping off twice for some photo opportunities. Then we stopped again at St. Michael's Cave where we were told we had a very rushed 20 minutes to explore. There were a couple of monkeys at the exit we got to see for about 5 minutes. Then we had 1 hour of free time only enough time to get lunch since it was 3pm, and then we left. I feel like we drove 6 hours that day only to spend 20 minutes in a cave. There was so much more I wanted to see in Gibraltar - the cable car, the apes' den, the great siege tunnels, and the WWII tunnels. Even if I had investigated more to find out we were really only seeing St. Michael's Cave, I feel like the itinerary for this trip is a great waste of money for anyone. It could be improved by leaving earlier in the morning, and returning to Seville later, cutting out the driven guided tour, add in two more entrance fees, and either guests are driven to the extra sights or are given more free time so that the guests can choose what they want to see.
This was the part of my trip I was most excited for, and then most disappointed by. We booked a day excursion because it cut down on travel time significantly, but I don't think it made up for any of it once we arrived. If I were to experience Gibraltar again, I would take the 4 hour public bus ride and make the most of my day there on my own time. Even better, if you have the time to spend the night there, you will really make it worth it.
