I participated in both the walking and cycling tours. Franz, our guide for both, was thoroughly knowledgeable about the many sights and their history, communicating much information without overload. The cycling was more about variety of location, but we learned a lot at each stop. The folks at the main office/meeting place were also kind and helpful.
The walking tour covered a lot of ground and our tour guide,I think her name was Cornelia was great. After a short lunch break we joined the bike tour and our guide, Franz, was very good at keeping the group together while also giving us all sorts of information on the city and Viennese history. I would recommended both to visitors to Vienna.
It's difficult to rate this tour because the two sections were opposites in terms of quality. The City Walking Tour was excellent, run by a highly capable guide - definitely worth doing this. She was full of good information and presented it in an entertaining way. The Bike Tour, on the other hand, was a C-/D effort. The guide was more interested in telling raunchy stories with children present, including stories of his personal life, than discussing Vienna. Safety was questionable, since when the second section of the group stopped for red lights the guide raced ahead, making it difficult to track him at a reasonable speed. The route duplicated much that was covered in the morning tour, and the only further out areas were ridden by without commentary. Later in our visit we realized how poorly the route was planned. Even if you love biking, this is a tour to skip.
I did the waking tour in the morning and the biking tour in the afternoon. In theory a great combination but the tour guide in the morning was an older woman who was more interested in pointing out shop fronts than tourist sights. It was a beautiful sunny day and she was more worried about staying out of the sun than actually being able to see the sights. She was also running almost 30 minutes behind time by the end of the tour making it hard to get food and get back to the tour office before the biking tour started. The biking part of the tour was amazing though. The young female guide Nichola was very informative about history and current events and very time conscience without making us feel rushed !! I would definitely recommend the biking tour !!
The morning tour was very interesting but moved quickly. The afternoon was just the opposite. While the bike ride was fun, the guide was not as knowledgeable I. E. "Here's a church and there's a church" with no descriptions. Slow talker with very little insight other than what's in a tour book.
